I write Earth Muffin Memos from a high mountain, rural, small-town haven deep in the wild heart of the Southern Rocky Mountains. Here, I participate in a mountain culture that boasts an intense coupling to the land. It is a culture less focused on monetary gain, material possessions and prestigious job titles, and more on life enriched with such vibrant experiences as roaming secret folds of peaks and washing down rivers during spring run-off.

With this perspective, Earth Muffin Memos invites you to step out of the modern pace of life with all of its newer, bigger, shinier tendencies of more, more, more and focus on values stretching beyond the economic and material.

For those that also live at altitude, or in outdoor-oriented communities spread throughout the globe, here you will find a sense of tribe with commonality, resonance, comfort and encouragement. I believe mountains and the culture of people living in their folds have something to offer the world, and it is my strong desire that within my words you find the strength to do so.

Yet, if you do not find yourself living in a community such as this, I invite you to discover a system of values and culture that might be a little different than the norm that surrounds you. Or, perhaps, you too find that sense of resonance that there is a different, more positive, more productive way to approach our lives. Here is a peek into what happens when we slow down, disconnect from technology, and re-connect with nature and people with intention.

Mine may not be a voice that feels familiar in the midst of our hyper-indulgent focus on technology, materialism, status and rampant busyness. But it is hopefully one that is refreshing, engaging and activating with a solutions-based approach towards positive change.
